K - 12th grade - Spring 2009


jrt drama classes  Registration for JRT’s acting classes will be on Tuesday, January 6th from 4 until 7 p.m.


All interested students and parents/guardians must be present to register.


JRT will offer four classes for students with varied experience: Beginners Drama for Kindergarten thru 2nd Grade; Beginners Drama for 3rd & 4th Graders; Acting I; and Acting II. Each class is designed to be a fun, interactive course for both beginning and advanced acting students.

 

Class Descriptions

(Descriptions are likely to change based on the theatre experience and knowledge of each class)

 

Beginners Drama I (K - 2nd grade): Tuesday, January 13 – April 28 from 4–5 p.m.

This class is designed for students as an introduction to theatre. The classes will include various avenues of theatre from pantomime and improvisational games to developing scenes and "story-building" skills - theatre basics. Students will be required to participate in class and prepare some scene work at home. There will be a family presentation at the end of the semester.

 

Beginners Drama II (3rd & 4th grade): Wednesday, January 14 – April 29 from 4-5 p.m.

This class is designed for students as an introduction to theatre. The classes will review and include various avenues of theatre from pantomime and improvisational games to developing scenes and "story-building" skills - theatre basics. Students will explore various jobs involved in producing a play and learn theatrical vocabulary, stage directions, and the layout of a typical theatre. Through the use of drama games and scene/character studies, students will improve skills in pantomime, stage voice and movement, character development, improvisation, communication, group cooperation and awareness, and self confidence. Students will be required to participate in class and prepare some scene work at home. There will be a family presentation at the end of the semester.

 

Acting I (5th – 7th grade): Monday, January 12 – April 27 from 4 – 5:30 p.m.

This class is designed as an introduction to theatre. Students will explore various jobs involved in producing a play and learn theatrical vocabulary, stage directions, and the layout of a typical theatre. Through the use of drama games and scene/character studies, students will improve skills in pantomime, stage voice and movement, character development, improvisation, communication, group cooperation and awareness, and self confidence. Students will be required to participate in class and prepare some scene work at home. There will be a family presentation at the end of the semester.

 

Acting II (8th – 12th grade): Tuesday, January 13 – April 28 from 5 - 6:30 p.m.

Acting II students will work on advanced acting skills with improvisation, monologues, and short scenes. The concepts of objective, obstacle, and sense memory will be introduced and reviewed. Students will learn methods to break down scripts and enhance character development. Students will also learn a bit of theatre history, including Shakespeare, early 20th century and Greek drama. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a strong monologue for auditioning as well as enhancing students’ ability to work well with other actors. This class will be divided into two sessions.

 

All classes will end with a final presentation. Costs for classes are $30/month for one hour courses and $45/month for an hour and a half courses. Classes will be capped.
